Integrated Solid Waste Management System Using Distributed System Architecture for Indonesia: An IT Blueprint

Indonesia is in the top 5 countries that generate solid waste. It is the 14th largest country in the world in managing waste, but unfortunately, Indonesia is not known for its diligence in waste management. In 2019, the coordinating minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, stated that it is a top priority in the national agenda to keep improving solid waste management due to the growing number of people living in the urban areas and the estimated 105.000 tons of solid waste a day. This paper aims to create an IT blueprint for this waste management through a distributed system that allows an optimum flow of waste out of dense urban centers and into the proper waste disposal facilities. It involves smarter waste surveillance, a consolidated fleet of collection agents of varying mobility and capacity, and includes people participation to control unnecessary waste generation. The system should be scalable while using existing resources and systems to manage the problem in the long term. It should maintain the three principles of Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM): waste prevention, recycling, and disposal. New technologies, such as a sensor network to monitor waste generation close to the source, can help burgeon localized SWM techniques such as community composting. The country can take the steps necessary to mitigate the problem.

E-School Implementation Using Radius Server and Authentication Mechanism

Nowadays, many schools would like to be digital or e-schools. They may face many problems due to the sudden transition from conventional school to digitalized school. Some major problems are both lack of human resources or manpower and the basic knowledge about technology itself. Based on the survey, the most common problem most schools face is insecure wireless networks. Even though they already installed advanced hardware, network security is still the basic problem. No security mechanisms such as encryption and authentication are the most common problem that may cause their network very vulnerable to any possible threat. After doing the research, Radius Server (both for the authentication server and monitoring system) can help solve the problem.

IT Blueprint for Education Institutions

Nowadays, the teaching and learning processes are changing drastically. Everything changes to be more digitalized and simpler. The way teachers address the materials, the way the students record the materials from the teacher, and the way communicate between teachers and parents, have changed. How will the education institutions support the changes if they do not have a proper IT system? How will they have a proper IT system that aligns with their vision and mission and supports their business or even have an IT system that becomes a business enabler? What they need is an IT blueprint, before they start implementing the system. With an IT blueprint, everything will be covered and designed based on the school’s vision and mission.
